PAUL FEORENE -  Vanity Plate

I'm definitely the guy that likes to ride and stands behind the idea that being a biker means it’s all about the ride
and not the destination.  I've been riding motorbikes of one type or another since I was thirteen years old (
and I
have the scares to prove it
). The Mild Hogs© like to ride the less traveled roads and at speeds where we can
actually see the sights, smell the fragrances of the road (
good and bad) and truly experience the trip. For me I
believe that to be a Mild Hog
© speed and distance are
definitely not a priority. That being said we have had some days when we have had to put on some long miles and
endure a storm or two. I believe that I hold the Mild Hog record for logging in the most miles in a single day (
1100+
miles
). I also have the dubious honor of holding the record for the most break downs. The first being in 2007 on
our first cross-country trip to the Grand Canyon with a flat-tire in Indianapolis.  The problem was exacerbated by a
nasty narrowed minded service manager at the local Harley-Davidson dealership who refused to give assistance
to repair a tire on an Indian no matter what I was willing to pay the man. Had it not been for the more gracious
attitude of the dealership’s General Sales Manager and a couple of the dealership mechanics towards helping a
fellow biker I and my fellow Mild Hog
© riders would have been stuck for a much longer time.

In 2008, on my ride from Michigan to New York via Canada, I had problems in Canada with a gas tank leak (
a
problem caused by allowing someone else to work on my bike
) and then later on the same trip the motor in my
Indian gave out just north of Gettysburg, PA. Fortunately we found a former Indian dealer not far away in
Westminster, MD. Unfortunately the engine could not be repaired within the time frame of our trip and I ended up
renting a Harley Ultra-Classic in order to continue the trip. In true Mild Hog
© character I was ridiculed (good
heartedly
) for my break-down and having to ride in the queen seat of Don’s Honda. But the Mild Hogs stayed with
me the whole time and every mile of the ordeal even though my break down cost nearly two days of our trip and
many miles out of our way as we had to ride to Frederick, MD in order find a rental Harley. Such is the
meaning of being a Mild Hog
©.

SIDE NOTE: The Indian has since been repaired but is no longer going on any cross-country trips. With the
generosity of my wife (
the “web chick”), as soon as I returned from that misfortunate road trip (I’m saying the same
day
) we went down to the local Harley-Davidson dealership and bought a new Road Glide (I had to promise to buy
her a Harley as well
). The Indian is prettier but the Harley is more reliable and there is a dealership in almost every
town. So hopefully on our next trip mine will not be the bike that gives us cause to be waiting for the tow truck."
