LOU IUPPA -  Vanity plate

"How did the “Mild Hogs
©” start?  Have you ever seen the movie “Wild Hogs”? Well I did in April 2007! I related to
the Tim Allen character. He managed risk his entire life and was the best provider he could be for his family. It had
been a long time since he had truly lived life on the edge and he wanted to throw caution to the wind to have an
exciting adventure. I had reached a point in my life where I was looking for new experiences…something that
would help me to feel alive again.

The day after the movie, I was driving home and I passed a man on a motorcycle going the opposite direction. I
remembered the adventures of the Wild Hogs and wondered what adventures that man had to share. I dawned on
me then….If that guy could be riding a bike, why not me? What that such and outrageous idea? It was at that
moment that my idea of becoming a motorcycle rider was born. However it was an idea that now needed a kick in
the butt. I called my brother who had been riding motorcycles for years. I let him know I was seriously thinking
about learning to ride and was thinking about getting a bike if I liked it. What my brother said next sealed the
deal….”Lou, if you learn to ride and get a bike, we’ll ride to the Grand Canyon together!”.

I took the Harley Davidson Rider’s Edge Course in May 2007. I purchased my 2007 Harley Davidson Road King
Classic in June 2007, and in July, Bruce (
John Travolta), Paul (William H Macey) and me (Tim Allen) started our
adventure. Bruce’s daughter Danielle heard about our adventure and dubbed us the “Mild Hogs
©”! She made the
first “Mild Hog©” T-shirt to commemorate our inaugural trip and I acquired the “Mild Hog© vanity plate for my bike
just in time to make the trip!
The Mild Hogs
© were born!

Our First Adventure - My first adventure was 5518 miles. I traveled from Wake Forest, NC through Virginia, DC,
MD, PA and NY to get to my brother’s house in Penfield, NY. Bruce and I started heading West and South and
coordinated our meeting with Paul in Indiana, due South of his home in Michigan. The adventure continued,.  We
averaged over 500 miles a day.  Our intention was to follow as much of the old route 66 trail as we could. We
purchased ZUMO GPS’s for our motorcycles and had preprogrammed the route we intended to take."  The rest is
history!
